The Lab concentrates on the application of available digital technology to develop better, more exciting ways of helping everyday or extraordinary information to reach their target group.
How? By creating digital applications/installations that provide an interactive experience of knowledge transmition using the most suitable platforms. This may mean the screen of a mobile phone, on-line, or an ordinary object. Depending on the topic new charcters, locations, installations, situations are designed and often are being coordinated and used together. Project concepts are based on current technological, artistic and scientific trends and their use together.
The three main activites, which often complement each other are: education, research and projects, installations desgined for external partners.

EXTERNAL PROJECTS
In order to bring research results out of academia we work also with external partners of cultural, commercial profile and hope that this shrinks the gap between research and development and the everyay use of its outcome.
This enables institutes, organization and other partners to implement and use currently popular trends which outherwise would be impossible without an own R+D department or due to the lack of technical, artistic skills or device requirements.
An example of which is the collaboration with the Palace of Arts. Now, visitors can come across with two interactive installations developed by the Lab in the space bringin them closer to the message and atmosphere of the Liszt Jubilee. |

RESEARCH
The Lab regards itself as an experimental hub of interdsiciplinary collaborations ans as such hope to be part of the building of collective knowledge.
On one hand we would like to bring the creative capacities of MOME closer to international research on the other we are aiming at being the bridge between research directions and results and implement them into local academic work.
Currently we are taking part in a European Union funded 7th Framework program for Research and Technological Development together with 14 other partners from 6 countries. The project, which worktitle is 'Terence' is aiming at developing interactive books (adaptative learning systems) for 7-11 year old children with text comprehension difficulties, who may also live with poor hearing or are completely deaf. The Lab is responsible for the visual content both in terms of illustrations and the user interface. |

EDUCATION
A real emphasis is put on challenging students with assignments reflecting on real problems. The goal is to provide them an experience that is valuable on the current marketplace, therefore we they are set to deal with existing issues and look for solutions in collaboration with our partner institutes, most particularily on the cultural field. We believe that the what they gain from it - including the network they can build - help raise their chance to succeed in the future as well.
As cooperations are very much supported we welcome and encourage students from other departments - and partner institutes - to join our projects. The ultimate goal is to establish the practice of interdisciplinary workgroups - as we deeply believe in benefits of open design culture that includes the combination of various perspectives.
Last fall (2011) our students had a chance to try themselves in such groupwork during a course called Digital museum and some of the outcomes are now being further developed outside the unviersity. |
